Tijekom adolescencije
(12-18 g.) dolazi do značajnog smanjenja razine tjelesne aktivnosti, a time i dnevnog broja koraka.
Abstract (english) The purpose of this thesis is to synthesize current knowledge about the effects of steps on health. Second goal is to, based on previous knowledge, create recommendation on the number of steps necessary for achieving the health benefits for children, adolescents and adults. The suggested number of steps differs among children and adolescents based on sex and age. For boys aged 6-12 the suggested number of steps is 12,500-14,999, while for girls the numbers are 9,500-11,999. During adolescence (12-18 years) there is a significant reduction in physical activity, and with it a reduction in the daily number of steps. For adults, the recommended daily number of steps is between 7,500-10,000. As for children and adolescents, these values represent a minimum at which certain health benefits are to be expected. Step number values that go over the recommended daily number of steps have a significantly larger impact on health in all age groups. Meeting the recommended number of daily steps has a significant effect in preventing obesity among children and adolescents. For adults, the positive effects are seen primarily in lowering the risk of mortality as well as lowering the risks of cardiovascular and malign diseases. There is also a proven positive effect on cardiovascular risk factors, the metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes. The recommendations in this thesis are given out to compensate current recommendations which are based on the intensity and duration of the physical activity. A summary of previous research concluded that there are great differences in the methods of step counting. Development of certain criteria and conditions for analysing number of steps could result in lowering inconsistence in measured data.
