Abstract (english) The primary goal of this research was to examine and measure the velocity of punches and kicks performed by senior karate practitioner throughout various weight classes. Furthermore, the disparities in velocity of punches were then compared within different weight classes to determine which weight class participants perform punches and kicks the fastest, i.e., the slowest. This research was conducted on a sample of twenty-six data subjects from Croatian karate clubs who perform within three distinct weight classes: lightweight (-67 kg; n=10; age: 21,6 ± 1,84 years; body weight: 66,6 ± 2,93 kg; height: 175,2± 3,68 cm; karate experience: 13,90 ± 2,08 years); middleweight (-75 kg; n=10; age: 23,75 ±3,62 years; body weight: 76,44 ± 2,95 kg; height: 179 ± 6,65 cm; karate experience: 15,88 ±3,48 years) and heavyweight (+75kg; n=8; age: 22,88 ± 3,09 years; body weight: 89,86 ± 4,04kg; height: 190,38 ± 4,04 cm; karate experience: 15 ± 2,51 years). For karate practitioners to be included into research, two requirements had to be fulfilled: each one of the practitioners still had to be an active karate fighter and have participated in the Croatian championships throughout the last two years. In addition to peak and average strike velocities, elementary anthropological characteristics such as body height, body mass and leg and arm lenght with which the strikes were performed were also measured. All strikes performed were recorded laterally in relation to the examinee in order to chiefly record the strike performed in the sagittal plane. Components which were recorded were the velocities of one (hand) punch and three (leg) kicks. Moreover, main assumption was that participants of the lightweight class would be statistically and notably faster than participants of other weight classes when performing the latter. The results have shown that while performing gyaku-zuki technique, the highest peak velocity values were scored by participants of the lightweight class. Middleweight practitioners have achieved the highest peak velocity values while performing ushiro mawashi-geri and mawashi-geri leg kicks and heavyweight practitioners achieved the highest results while performing mae-geri leg kicks. To summarize, the highest average velocity values while performing punches were scored by the lightweight practitioners, but in relation to every other strike, the results have shown that middleweight practitioners scored the highest values.
