Abstract

Cilj ovog rada bio je analizirati komunikacijski aspekt 48 sportskih motivacijskih govora na
engleskom jeziku. Analiza je napravljena na temelju situacijskih varijabli s jedne strane te
verbalnih i neverbalnih komunikacijskih aspekata motivacijskih govora s druge strane. Unutar
verbalnog komunikacijskog aspekta motivacijskog govornog čina procjenjivale su se boja i visina
glasa govornika, kao i isticanje riječi u motivacijskim govorima. Unutar neverbalnog
komunikacijskog aspekta procjenjivala se razina aktivnog položaja govornikova tijela te
gestikulacija. Varijable vezane za situacijski aspekt odnosile su se na sport u kojemu se
motivacijski govor odvijao, vrsti natjecanja tijekom kojega se odvijao, vrsti govornika koji je
davao iskaz i vremenskoj točki sportskog događaja u kojoj se iskaz odvijao. Istraživanje je
pokazalo da su u ulozi motivacijskog govornika najčešće bili treneri koji svoje iskaze najučestalije
daju prije utakmice ili meča. Govori su najčešće realizirani smirenim glasom govornika
promjenjive visine. Govorni je čin najčešće bio popraćen hodanjem govornika. U govornome činu
riječi se nisu često isticale za razliku od gestikuliranja koje je bilo izrazito učestalo tijekom
motivacijskih govora.

Abstract (english)

The aim of this paper was to analyse the communication aspect of 48 motivational speeches in the
English language in sports. The analysis was based on situational variables on one hand and verbal
and non-verbal communication aspects of motivational speeches on the other. Tone and pitch of
the speaker’s voice were assessed within the verbal communication aspect as well as the presence
of the emphasized words in motivational speeches. The assessment of non-verbal communication
aspect focused on whether the speech act was executed while sitting, crouching, standing, or
walking. The incidence of gestures during speech was also addressed. The assessment of all
categories of verbal and non-verbal communication aspects of the speech act was analysed in terms
of type of sport, type of competition during which the motivational speech was delivered, type of
speaker giving the speech, and the time point at which a speech was delivered. Research results
have shown that the motivational speeches were most often given by coaches before a game or
match. A calm tone of voice with alternating pitch prevailed in the speeches. The speech act was
mostly executed while walking. Emphasizing of particular words was less frequent in the analysed
speeches in comparison to gestures, which were abundantly used during motivational speeches.
