Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
The aim of this study was to assess the difference in the parameters of situational efficiency of baseline play between the winners and defeated players on Australian Open in 2014. The total sample of this study is made of statistics from the 1st sets, played in all matches of the 1st round by 128 players from the main draw of the tournament. Winners, forced and unforced errors are the main indicators of game efficacy in tennis. The listed variables are measured and analyzed for seven different strokes after returned serve. The results of the statistical data evaluation show that there are six statistically significant differences. The most obvious differences are in ground strokes in play at the baseline: there are four of them. In addition to this, the statistically significant differences appear in approach shots, in the variable of unforced backhand errors, and in passing shots, where the statistically significant difference is evident in the variable of unforced forehand errors. Strokes from the baseline that tennis players use the most are also analyzed and described in this study.
