Abstract | Istraživanje je provedeno na uzorku od 93 ispitanika, 74 muškarca i 19 žena na području Hrvatske, Slovenije, Crne Gore, Bosne i Hercegovine, Italije, Njemačke, Austrije, Irske, Velike Britanije, Švicarske, Španjolske i SAD-a. |
Abstract (english) | Research has been carried out on a sample of 93 examinees, 74 male and 19 female kiteboarders in Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy, Germany, Austria, Ireland, Great Britain, Switzerland, Spain and the USA. Of the 93 respondents, 2 of them are professional kiteboarders (2.2%), 77 of them are recreational kiteboarders (82.8%), and 14 of them are kiteboarding instructors (15.1%). The purpose of this paper is to determine the type and frequency of sports injuries in kiteboarding, and to identify the causes of their occurrence in individuals who are professionally engaged in kiteboarding and recreational athletes. Also, findings of this research should give main guidelines in making proper prevention and fitness programs. Kiteboarders filled retrospective questionnaire in electronic form. A total of 57 injuries has been noted, or 0.6192 injuries per respondent. The most common injuries according to the anatomical locality are feet (17) and knees (17) injuries, which are predominant and consist 59.65% of all injuries based on locality. Ligament strain (25) and muscle strain (13) as the most common types of injuries together account for more than half of all injuries compared to other types of injuries (57.91%). Recovery from injury in most respondents lasted less than 7 days (18 cases, 19.4%) and up to a month (18 cases, 19.4%). Also, 8 respondents stated that their injury required surgery, and 7 respondents who were prevented from further kiteboarding due to the injury. The most common place where the injury occurred is on the water (sea, lake), a total of 47 injuries. Injuries occurred most often during jumps (31 injuries, 33.3%) and insufficient control of the kite on water or on land (22 injuries, 23.7%). Most respondents (17 cases, 18.3%) had 4-6 years of kiteboarding experience at the time of the injury. Respondents who spend more time kiteboarding are more likely to be injured (r = 0.5114). |
