Abstract Ravnoteža je složena sposobnost čiju uspješnost određuje veliki broj sustava.
Abstract (english) Balance is a complex ability whose success is determined by a number of systems. For now, vestibular, visual and somatosensory systems are of greatest importance, but more recent studies also take in consideration the auditory system. The main goal of this research was to determine the effect of various sound stimuli on balance of visually impaired adolescents while performing a steady standing stance task on an unstable surface. In order to ensure equal conditions for each subject all tasks were performed without wearing shoes, in socks. Subjects performed the given balance task in three conditions with different sound stimuli: 1. silence, 2. random sound stimulus, 3. rhythmic sound stimulus. One repetition was performed in each condition, and the order of testing in individual conditions was different for each subject. Variables obtained with Gyko device were used in data processing: 1. total distance, 2. average squared deviation from the starting point and 3. average frequency of movement of the centre of gravity. Obtained results were processed in Statistica 14.0 and the processing methods used were Cohen′s index and repeated measures ANOVA. The results show no significant difference between the three conditions, although tendency to worsen the results can be observed when random sound stimuli was played. Thus, the tendency coincides with other research conducted on this topic. Considering previous research that has been carried out on this topic, it may be concluded that auditory system contribute to the ability of maintaining balance, but further, more detailed, research is needed to determine how and in what way a certain type of sound stimulus affects the maintenance of balance.
